SETW 2023: Spring European Testing Week 2023 Online Event

The event titled “HIV, Hepatitis B and C and Sexually Transmitted Infections: why is testing important and what can be done to increase testing access and uptake?” took place on 17 May 2023.

Reaching and testing those at risk of infection with HIV, hepatitis B or C, and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) is still a public health challenge in Europe. Early diagnosis allows access to life-saving treatments, helps to stop further infections, and reduces costs for healthcare systems.

During the event leading experts discussed the following topics:

  • the importance of testing for HIV, hepatitis B and C, and STIs,
  • who should get tested, when and how,
  • the need to reach those at risk with testing services,
  • the impact of COVID-19 and the consequences of the war in Ukraine on testing practices in EU/EEA countries, and
  • how to increase testing access and uptake.

Better testing coverage and uptake, especially for those most at risk, is essential on the way toward global efforts to eliminate HIV and viral hepatitis by 2030 and to reduce the health impact of STIs.

What can you do to prevent and treat HIV, hepatitis B and C, and STIs? Testing is a joint responsibility, and everyone has a role to play: individuals, healthcare professionals, and policymakers. Join us and discuss with us why testing is important and what can be done across different areas and disciplines to increase testing access and uptake.
